Chakra Energy Work and Trauma
Cameo Gillson, founder of Cameo Energy Healing, talks about trauma’s effects on our bodies and how Chakra energy work brings your body back into a homeostasis state. Even if you feel that you just had a relaxing nap, Chakra work is helping your body, your mind, and your spirit to heal itself.
Cameo Energy Healing is based in Olympia, Washington.

Q: How long have you been doing energy work? What drew you to energy work?
A: I think the work finds us when we are ready for it. My first experience with energy work was a reiki session in 2006. When I left the session I knew whatever had just happened in that room was exactly what I needed and want to be doing and registered for reiki certification within a week.
I had just begun what would be a ten year professional career in medical device sales and meanwhile had discovered a fascination and passion for alternative healing.
After reiki I continued my training and became certified as an energy healer, specifically studying the chakra system promising myself that someday I’d have my own practice and began seeing clients professionally in 2016.
I see this with many clients who are new to energy work, as well. Often I work with folks who are discovering or newly stepping in to their gifts. This work frequently becomes a catalyst opening them up to their own futures with healing. It’s truly beautiful to witness.
Q: Tell me about your practice. What does your intake process look like?
A: I’m blessed to have a practice filled with a variety methods I connect with clients. If I don’t have a previous connection with a client, I like to speak first to answer questions and get a better understanding of their needs and expectations.
I want people to know what to expect from our time together as well as know if there are specific goals, triggers, or sensitivities for them.
This is intimate work together. It is important that clients feel safe and able to be open with whomever they work with and I like to establish that before we begin.
Sessions begin really with a conversation to get a snapshot of how clients are feeling mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. We pull cards (if desired) and discuss whatever is present for the client before we move on to the hands-on work.
Q: Do clients who have experienced trauma indicate that they have? Do you know ahead of time what issues you will be working on? Have you worked with a person who has experienced trauma before?
A: We’ve all experienced trauma and we are all currently experiencing a collective trauma. While our personal trauma severity varies, energy work supports healing the known and unknown trauma we carry.
Some clients are active in their trauma healing and are very open about it. I’ve also worked with clients who have come to remember repressed traumas.
Often people come to me not knowing exactly what’s “wrong” but just know they are looking for something. Whether we are aware of or acknowledge the trauma, energy healing is still effective. Your body and Higher know what’s ready to be released even if we don’t talk about it.
Q: What suggestions do you have for people who have experienced trauma that might be considering energy work? What should they look for in practitioner?
A: Finding a practitioner you feel connected and safe with is imperative. Trust your intuition and be discerning.
I find that we attract the teachers and practitioners we are meant to work with when we are meant to. It’s Divine. Frequently my clients are working through something I have personal experience with; similarly most of my teachers and healers have similar traumas they’ve moved through.
We are vibrationally drawn to those who have similar vibrational imprints; who better to help us than those who have walked a similar path, yes?
Q: While everyone has different experiences and outcomes, what would you say is the biggest benefit for someone who has experienced trauma to have an energy session?
A: People who have experienced trauma are aware of or have frequently explored other options before seeking out energy healing, and certainly this is not a replacement for any of that work.
However, energy healing can gently and effectively move some of those blocks- a bit like energetic surgery. Our bodies are like energetic libraries cataloging our experiences, thoughts, and programming we’ve received since childhood.
Often there are very dense and low vibrational feelings/emotions we carry with us, especially so for trauma survivors: guilt, shame, depression, self-worth and self-trust issues, and coping mechanisms that no longer serve us. These are dense and heavy frequencies to move out of (especially long-term). Energy healing legitimately helps “lighten the load” we are carrying.
Q: What tools or tips that you would recommend for outside of the session?
A: I recommend people be a little gentle with themselves, keeping in mind our work. Clients are leaving with open, charged, and balanced chakras, vibrating at a different frequency than when they arrived.
Clients may be a more sensitive, may feel a little “floaty” for a bit, or like they’ve just had a deep tissue massage. Drinking extra water and allowing some space for self is always a good idea, as well.
I also highly encourage developing/deepening a personal spiritual practice, which inherently invites peace and healing.
Most importantly I encourage clients to continue to listen to their bodies and intuition. Healing is a journey and the right guides and tools show up as we need them if we are open. And then we share them with others along the way.
