self care for the holidays

Most holidays are celebrated world-wide. Though some holidays are universal at their core, everyone celebrates the holidays differently. This time of year should be filled with fun and wonder but more often than not, it is wrought with stress, anxiety, and sometimes even depression. That’s why self-care for the holidays is even more important.

  • Wouldn’t it be great to enjoy the holiday’s without feeling out of control and being triggered emotionally?
  • Wouldn’t it be amazing to experience stress-free family time and make the holidays everything you’ve dreamed of?
  • Does the idea of taking charge of your holiday season and making it your own seem like a pipe dream?

Take a deep breath and get ready because it is entirely possible to get through the Holidays without losing yourself. Let’s start by talking about the most important relationship you can have. The relationship with yourself.

Make Self Care for the Holidays a Priority

Self-care during the Holidays is vital to maintain your sense of self. Your self-care routine should be something you do for yourself and only you. Not something others want you to do.

At least once a week during the Holidays, you should choose some type of activity that you enjoy, relaxes you, and makes you happy. It can be something you do alone or with friends. There are no rules about self-care, as long as it makes you feel better and is something you truly enjoy.

Unplug at Least Once a Day During the Holidays

With all the intensity and overwhelm of the holidays, it’s very important to give yourself some time during the day when you are completely unplugged.

This means no computer or laptop, no tablet, and no cell phone. It’s up to you if you choose to include the television as part of the unplugging, but definitely no phone!

You need some time to relax without text messages, social media notifications, and phone updates. Unplugging allows you to sit in the quiet and just enjoy your home and family, without all that extra noise.
